raid emulation?

hey i have two 4.3gbs drives but no raid card....is there a way to emulate raid 0?

DavidPhillips 05-16-2003 11:19 PM

use software raid

it's not emulation, but it's raid

well how would i reinstall the os on these 2 drives as raid, would i need a card then?

DavidPhillips 05-17-2003 02:22 AM

The partition needs to be formated as a raid device, you should backup the data and create the raid array, then restore the data.

There may be other ways to do it, not sure.

If you have enough space for the raid partition already free then create the partition and move the data to it.

During install if you want to do it that way is the option for filesystem type

choose raid, then after creating enough partitions for the array you can create the array

thanks

let us know if you have problems once you get into doing it.

There are some howtos for raid also but if your reinstalling the system it should be pretty much transparent.

It would be a great idea to read some documentation on it at some point in case you ever have a drive go bad and need to recreate the array.

well itd be raid 0 which isnt redundant

DavidPhillips 05-17-2003 03:11 PM

Raid 0 is also supported, the speed improvement is pretty good.

Of course there is not anything to worry with as far as replacing a hard drive goes, everything will be lost.
