RAID 1 Partition Failed

Dear friends,

My CentOS 4.7 server refused to boot one morning. Fortunately I had two hard disks mirrored in the server. I swapped the drives --- i.e. made sda as sdb and vice versa. The system booted and started working as usual.

but on examining the RAID, I find that:

the output of mdadm --query --detail /dev/md1 is as follows:-

Number Major Minor RaidDevice State

0 8 18 0 active sync /dev/sdb2

1 0 0 - removed

Can anyone suggest how to rectify the problem ?

Essentially the problem is, from what I understand that you've added a new hard drive to the server in place of the dead one but not added it to the array?

You might want to check out this: http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Software-RAID-HOWTO-6.html#ss6.3
