QWebView widget missing from Display Widgets in Qt Creator

[Please excuse my cross-posting this thread from Qt Centre: it's been there for a number of days and has gotten well over a hundred views but no replies.]
I have Qt Creator and Qt4 Designer installed on Ubuntu 12.04, and they seem to work fine.
I recently installed these same two packages on a different computer running Ubuntu 14.04, and the QWebView widget was missing from the Display Widgets rubric. I searched for solutions to the problem and found one proposed solution: simply copy the file
"libqwebview.so" into the directory
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt4/plugins/designer
I did that, and after that the QWebView widget did display in Qt4 Designer. However, it still doesn't display in Qt Creator. Also, on my computer on which the QWebView icon appears normally I find only one instance of this file. This suggests that there is a different problem with Qt Creator: either the plugin has a different name or it uses the Qt4 Designer plugins but keeps a list of the widgets to display and the list no longer matches the ones that are actually present in that directory.
Does anyone have any idea how to get the QWebView icon to appear normally in Qt Creator? I've tried uninstalling and reinstlaling both programs many times.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Tom

Here's the Debian bug report on this issue
Quote:
Apparently the designer-plugin for qwebview is built by the qt source package, but that one probably does so only if qwebkit is built alongside Qt or if webkit is installed already
I do love a good mailing list...

Thank you for the information about this problem.
So far I have been trying very hard to use the
Ubuntu Software Center (Ubuntu's package manager)
to install and uninstall everything, to avoid
incompatibilities and conflicts, etc., and the
problem I am describing came about when Qt Creator
was installed using the Ubuntu Software Center.
However, I have gotten frustrated enough that
I have thought about building the package from
source to work around this problem. If I do that
I'll take note of the information you provided
and let you know the results.
Thank you,
Tom

Hey Tom,

It would appear you might be able to just uninstall creator and make sure QTwebkit is install you could re-install creator with functionality without getting into the packages. Even if you do have to break the package down in creator, the "use qtwebkit" might just be a switch in the config file.

Good Luck
