Quicktime for linux ?
 

Yes, mplayer can play both quicktime and realplayer formats if it's installed correctly.

Also does Xine (which personally I like best, but that's only me around here apparently). Only problem is that it does not support very well Quicktime 6.x

BTW there is a native real player for linux (in rpm format)

Look below the plugins for all of the Windows codecs on the MPlayer download page. There are extensions for QT and Realplayer, plus a few other formats. Place them in the same directory as the Win32 codecs belong in, and then recompile MPlayer. Voila, QT support :)

Story: need to release a video on CD rom, Quicktime seems to be a pretty good "all platform" format.

personally i think that xine is the only way to go also. in xine you can jump from chapter to chapter, compaired to mplayer. xine is just better, probably since it's been around longer and more people have written to it. mplayer might come around someday, who knows.

there is an openquicktime that you can get. it's worked for me without any problems. here is where i found it for mandrake, should work for rpm based distro's. most of them are compatable, but sometimes they like to play against one's self and be difficult, so good luck.
