Quick doubt: should i choose a 32 or 64 bit version to give virtualbox?

Hello,

i have a Debian 64 bit. I will use virtualbox to emulate another operating system, and i can choose to install 64 or 32 bit versions of this system. Is there any gain or loss choosing one of them? Or this is not significant?

If someone had a pretty new computer with enough resources I'd suggest that you use 64 bit unless some odd issue that you must have 32 bit.

For the most part there may be a very slight overhead gain to 32 bit but 64 bit OS's are built to be a slightly faster.

I have not found it significant but I don't play with 32 bit VMs much. I would choose 64 over 32.

Thumbs up

Thank you both. (:

I will close this thread, then, and try 64 bit. The OS i will emulate needs (the minimum) much less resources than my hosting machine is. So, i think everything will behave nicely.

If anyone have something to say, please do. A solved thread is *not* a closed thread. (;

I agree with 64-bit.

If you want to run a 32-bit OS in it, you can always configure the settings for the VM to emulate 32-bit.

Sure, sure. But my doubt was along of this idea being expensive or not. I know that 64 bit processors are (or were, some years ago, to some extent) compatible with binary code for 32 bits processors. But emulating a whole OS may be tricky in aspects i may not even imagine, so i decided to search some opinions.

Modern systems get better and better at integrating virtual machines and the host physical system. There is less and less software between them.
