Questions on SSH key management

Hi,

I have been using an RSA generated key for accessing a server securely using SSH2.
Now, when using Gftp, it looks by default in ~/.ssh for the private key.
What I want to know is if the name the key has affects on its use with its pair (the public key located on the server).
Since I'm planning on accessing more servers in the same way, can I have each key in its own folder in ~/.ssh?
Can I rename the keys without affecting anything?

I'm also planning on getting a usb flash drive and formatting it with EXT2, so as to carry my keys with me.

Any advice is appreciated.

PS: don't be to harsh if i got some of the technical "crypto" jargon wrong

Yes you can just check the manpages on ssh ' man ssh ' and I think it is -i and name of the file where the key is.
