questions about vmware

Ok, I just installed VMWare and before I start messing with it, I was wondering if anyone could answe this for me:

Say I "installed" Windows whatever. Would I be able to install my printer and modem in that "installation" even though neither work in Linux? I know there are Windows driver for those devices but I don't know if VMWare just re-routes the ports or how it manipulates them.

Thanks,
Mike.

My scanner refuses to work in Linux but I have no problems with it in VMWare booting Windows 98 SE. My scanner is USB.
Good luck

Printer will work. For your modem, it may work. If the modem is a serial or USB modem it will work. USB, Parallel, and Serial are being used by low-level with VMware. Read the documentation from VMware site or your computer.

Printer doesn't work in LINUX. That's strange. Use CUPS and find the driver. You can use windows drivers unless they apply to certain rules. Usually manufactures don't apply to printer driver standards.

Ok... Windows XP runs like crap under this but Windows 98 SE runs pretty smoothly. Has anyone figured a way to share files between the Linux host and a 98 guest seeing as they didn't bother to integrate file sharing for 98?

I had the reverse situation - I had VMware 3.2 on Windows 2000 host and RH 8.0 as guest. My modem, which did not work in RH 8.0 (internal SM56 modem), worked fine with RH in vmware (actually VMware uses win2k's internet connection sharing and emulates an ethernet card in linux which uses the modem in win2k)
