questions about the "lock screen" in Linux Mint 18.1

Is there any way to automatically disable the lock screen when I'm running certain applications? Clearly, I cannot add code into every potential candidate app for "don't lock" behavior, but can scripting toggle some disable-enable flag?

My Linux Mint 18.1 w/ Cinnamon Desktop Environment will decide that it is idle and launch the lock screen. I like this. I've configured this behavior. However, my workstation and I disagree about what idle means.

It seems that the workstation considers only keyboard and pointer use as signs of activity.

On the other hand, I may have some application running that I want or need to watch -- NO!! I'm not watching a video or similar -- and eventually that lock screen happens.

Thanks in advance,
~~~ 0;-/ Dan
You could try using gsettings to manipulate the key disable-lock-screen in the schema org.gnome.desktop.lockdown.
I don't know if it will work, but it's worth a go.
