questions about gnome

I have never really been into using gnome, but I installed dropline gnome for College Linux and I really like it.
I have a couple of questions about it though:

1- how do I make a different desktop background for each of my 4 workspaces? or can I at all? (kde does this np)
2- how can I get rid of the trash and the home icon on my desktop? I only want to use the launcher
3 - How can I get numlock to boot when gnome is opened? In kde it is easy.

I think there is more I want to know but I can't think of it right now.

Off the top of my head I can tell you how to remove the trash icon. Go to Applications > System Tools > Configuration Editor. Go to apps > nautilus > desktop and deselect the 'trash_icon_visible' box.
As for the four different wallpapers, I'm not sure how to do it. It's not as simple as it is with KDE but I'm sure it's possible somehow.
