question of installing php pear by apt

Hi i just installed php4 stable packages by apt. everything were smooth.
but when i use the test.php in the horde project, it tells me the version of my installed pear is not recent enough.
it would like to know whether i can still use this version of pear ?
or, i need to install the testing package in stead of stable? if so .. do i need to reinstall all php related packages to testing status.
thanks for your help!
