Question about RedHat 8.0

hi guys i'm running redhat 8.0 and I've noticed that when i want to swich from a graphical interface to console, redhat logs me out of the graphical interface and whatever program is open in my graphical interface it closes. My question is: is there any way that when i want to swich to console redhat doesn't logs me out of the graphical interface.

I know that it is posible because i've done in Mandrake and Slackware

Thanks a lot

If you're running KDE, check in the Control Center, under KDE Components, Session Manager. Play around with what's there.

Or, you can switch to another login with [ctrl]+[alt]+[f#] , replacing the # with a number from 2 to 6. You can then login and do whatever you want. You can even switch between logins with [alt]+[f#]. To get back to the X session, just hit [alt]+[f7]. You'll return to exactly where you left it. You can exit the command-line login if you want, or leave it where it is and come back to it later.

u mean to change the run level like booting to command promt instead of grapical interface?
if so change the /etc/inittab

top of it there is a option
id:3:initdefault: like this change it to change it to 3 for console 5 for graphical interface

Try opening up Gnome Terminal. I do it fifty times a day so therefore I placed the icon on my Gnome 2.2 Panel.
