quanta plus eating up clock cycles

I have a problem with quanta plus eating up 99% of all clock cycles and my temperature on my notebook skyrockets to a very hot 78 degrees celcius.
Now in kde, if I use the system guard and renice the process and say anything above zero, the temperature stays down but my processor is still practically at 100%. If I continue to run quanta plus, will this damage my processor?
Does anyone know how to fix this?

I'm on suse9.1 if that makes a difference and I tried the FC2 rpms; same senario.
