Quake3 Sound
I am trying to get Quake3 running on Mandrake 9.1. I bought the Linux version by Loki. It is installed fine but when I go to run it I get this message at the end:
------- sound initialization -------
/dev/dsp: Broken pipe
Received signal 11, exiting...
I don't know what this means. My sound works fine, in fact It was working perfect in NWN beta5. I then decided to install RTCW and now I have no sound on all three games. What is going on here?
The sound itself is working, just not in any games now.
Please HELP

Yeah, I did try to run it as the user that installed it. Of coarse when that didn't work I tried doing it as root also but to no avail.
I was just informed about the latest point release. I didn't know anything about that, but if it might solve the problem I'm going to try and find it and install it.

You cant have any other program using the sound at the same time as q3, btw. So close down xmms, etc.

No. I haven't even turned on the Linux box in quite awhile. I just received an e-mail about a response to this post, I had forgotten all about it. I have discovered Mac OS X, and have been pre-occupied as well as fascinated with it since about June of last year. Sorry.

That's right. Now I can do what I need to do, and I don't have to spend days trying to do something. Then I can take my time to learn how to do things "The Linux Way" instead of having to wait on some knucklehead to give a response in some forum that I have posted in. If I get a response at all. So yes, I brougt a mac! haha !!
