Quake 3 arena and XMMS
 

When i have newly turned my machine on, i can play q3 without any problems. but if i play some music in xmms then when i want to play q3, the sound is gone. :( i cant play any good without sound.

Anyone having some idea of whats wrong?

just found out that there is something called aplay running when i play.. if i kill it i get sound.. if i dont i would not be able to hear anything :( dont know whats starting it.. anyone?

your soundcard is probably not supporting duplex sound (mean it can play 1 sound at a time, not more). Search about "ALSA" and "OSS" (I don't remember what is what, my sound card doesn't support any duplex anyways), the kernl sound module doesn't support duplex natively as it seems.
