qt errors constantly on SUSE 10.0

Almost every time I try to configure a program it's missing something. This time, and many before it, I've gotten an error regarding my QT version. Now i'm aware that it's hard to keep every module updated well when you're distributing god knows how many in an OS, but it would be nice if SUSE could have at least ONE OR TWO OF THE ONES I NEED!!! Out of the at least 15 programs I've tried building from source, I've managed to get ONE, that's right ONE to work!

Now, not having QT is not such a big deal, but the latest version in ANY of the repositories I can find is 3.0. Trolltech just recently release 4.1, they're a whole MAJOR REVISION behind. Never mind that I can't find it with any YaST repositories, but I can't find it with my good ol' buddy GOOGLE either. If anybody ANYBODY can find these libraries (as well as jpeglib.h, whatever that may be) I would soooooooooooooo very greatly appreciate it.

And as a note to any SUSE users out there, I'm leaving, and moving somewhere with better libraries in it's distribution, and maybe a recent version of some of the software.

I am a long time SuSE user and concur that programs often do not compile from source. I think most of this is due to the way the folks at SuSE organize things - the libs are often there but in different locations or with different names.

wonderful...

So, how do I go about finding them if they're not even named the same!?!?

And I KNOW that I don't have a >=3.2 Qt installation because the latest version available through YaST is 3.0 (search for qt and you'll get a package called qt3).

Also, got any *good* repositories for SUSE? I've found the ones listed on opensuse.org rather...unsatisfying.

And Merry Christmas, friend.
