qt-devel?? Debian Kurnel Recompile

Im trying to recompile my debian kernel and I get this error when I try to 'make xconfig'

Umbra:/usr/src/linux# make xconfig
*
* Unable to find the QT installation. Please make sure that the
* QT development package is correctly installed and the QTDIR
* environment variable is set to the correct location.
*
make[1]: *** [scripts/kconfig/.tmp_qtcheck] Error 1
make: *** [xconfig] Error 2

I figure it wants qt-devel and, or, qt, but I have tried apt-cache search qt-devel, nothing... there are no packages by that name... whats up??
