I just installed AntiVir Workstation for Linux. The antivir executable works fine. The automatic update tool, avupdater, starts up as a service and seems to be working, too.

My question is, do I need to have any particular mail daemon (i.e. sendmail, qmail, etc) running on my system in order for avupdater to use its e-mail notification feature? This feature allows avupdater to send alerts to the specified e-mail account. The README file makes no mention of any prerequisite for this feature.

I am currently using this Linux box as a desktop system, and I am hoping I won't have to run any daemon that is not necessary. Could someone shed some light on this?

If you registered your copy, you supplied your email address. Alerts will go to that address (several alerts per day is normal).
