Python....screwed?

When I try yum update I get this error...So I tried yum remove python...it did ALOT of stuff...then I tried yum install python* ... then it tells me its missing all kinds of stuff.... Isn't there a way to just reinstall it or something without these problems? What does Python do? Do I need it? If I don't need it can I get yum update to go around it and update everything else?
