Unhappy pyopengl-2.0.0.44 failed

I finished install installing Gentoo linux this morning for the first time, and today I have been trying to emerge gnome, always with the same result

<output>
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1

!!! ERROR: dev-python/pyopengl-2.0.0.44 failed.
!!! Function distutils_src_compile, Line 38, Exitcode 1
!!! compilation failed
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.
</output>

it always chokes on pyopengl
when i uname -a it reports

<output>
Linux csplinter 2.6.9-gentoo-r6 #1 Fri Nov 26 21:12:25 CST 2004 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1800+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
</output>

I really have no idea of what to do here, google is no help, the only promiseing lead i found is here pro-linux.de/news/2004/7080.html (its german [i don't speak germen])

thx in advance
