pycurl error 6 - couldn't resolve host public-yum.oracle.com

I have Oracle Linux 6.6 installed in my VMWare Workstation 10.0.5. I am trying to install some libraries using yum, but I get this error -

Code:
pycurl error 6 - couldn't resolve host public-yum.oracle.com
Trying other mirror
Error : Cannot retrieve repository metadate(repomd.xml) for repository: public_ol6_UEKR3_latest.
I have tried multiple things mentioned in the sites, but I could not get it working. Also my internet is not working in the VM.

I typed yum repolist all and I got only 2 enabled, the one main one and another mirror

I am attaching my /etc/yum.repos.d/public-yum-ol6.repo file for reference.

Thanks for any help.

The error is expected because your internet is not working on Oracle Linux machine. If it cannot connect to internet how it will connect to public repository?

Another thing, did you purchase subscription from Oracle? If not then even after you get internet working yum will not work because you don't have subscription.

If you want to practice you can use CentOS 6.6.

Thanks for the response. I thought so too, but I have another VM in Virtualbox that I am not able to connect to the browser, but the yum search/install works. Technically the yum oracle site do not, but the mirror sites do. That is why I was confused. Where do I find the mirror information, so I will try to use the mirror site info from the working one to non-working one.

I have to use Oracle Linux.

Thanks.

Not sure what you are talking about? What do you mean by mirror information? Are you talking about third-party repository. Give us the details.

When I do yum install, it checks for main repository URL or it checks the mirror sites. In one of my other machines, it used the mirror URL for downloading the yum binaries. I wanted to check where that config as I was not able to see in public-yum-ol6.repo file.

But after restarting my host machines, my internet is working and I was able to get the yum installs working now.

Thanks again for your help.

You're welcome and thanks for marking the thread as solved.

I am still not sure what you mean by:

Anyways glad that you get it sorted.

Enjoy Linux!!!
