putting sound to all of my home, what software?

Hello all, I am wanting to tackle setting up sound throughout my house. I would like to run differant music in each room. For instance me listening to my music in my garage and my kids listening to lullabies to put them to sleep. Has any one done this or any one know a good program for this? Also what hardware would be required?

I've never done anything close to that, but I think you'll need one soundcard per room. Then you'll have to run audio cable from the computer to each room (one cable per soundcard). Finally, you'll have to launch one XMMS (for example) per room, and configure each to use the right card.
That's all guessing, though...
