purchased used toshiba laptop

i purchased a used toshiba tecra 8000 today. When i viewed it upon purchase it had windows up and running. I came home and the linux screen came up wanting a password? I obviously do not have the previous owners password. Is there anyway to go around this and get windows to come up? I am not familiar with this software and appreciate any help. Thank you :) Shelly

If both, Linux and Windows, are installed ("dual boot"), please observe the text messages while the computer is booting. There should be some point (for some seconds only) where you can choose which one of them to boot (press any key then to stop the pre-selection of Linux in your case).

Side-note: If you'd actually be able to boot into Windows without being asked for a password, this is a Windows version shortened on features, and being insecure.

After all, it appears reasonable to assume your laptop hasn't been delivered with a full operating system (freshly installed and with master-password).

Possibly a dual-boot with hiddenmenu and a short time-out.
Sound like Fedora ???.

Try hitting the <ESC> key as soon as your computer comes out of the BIOS messages. Be quick - just keep hitting it. Should give you a menu to choose.
Did you get any CDs with it - M$oft, and/or Linux ???.

reformat it if possible. its kind of logical to start with a clean operating environment rather than having somebodyelse's stuff on it. if you dont have a copy of of windows, linux distrubutions are a free alternative.(some are very easy to set up and very intuitive is use)
if just need windows and have a copy, go ahead and wipe everything during installation.(acquire the necessary drivers beforehand if you need to)
if you need anything else post and ask.
