Puppy 5.1.1 lacks synaptics driver

Greetings,

I installed Puppy Linux 5.1.1 on my laptop, but can't turn off touchpad tap. Every time I move the mouse, the touchpad "clicks" what is under the cursor, which is most painful.

Can anyone help me out?
Thanks much,
- Ken (dot) Dickey (at) Whidbey (dot) com

There is at least one module which you may try out
Code:
modprobe acpi_toshiba
if the command gives no errormessage, the module is been loaded and you may check if you can disable you touchpad and find out if e.g. your functional keys are working.

Unfortunately I don't have any experience with puppy. And I don't know since which kernelversion the toshiba module is available, the kernel where I looked at is a 2.6.36 version.

One way to check how the configuration has to be adapted in order to get the touchpad working properly is the following. Burn a Ubuntu-Live-DVD, and boot with it, check if you touchpad is working, if it does, look at the output of lsmod and uname(in Ubuntu) and wich program is there installed in order to configure the touchpad. Then you may find a similar solution for your Puppy installation.

I'd further recommend to search in the Puppy-forums, e.g. here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/puppy-71/

Good luck

Markus

SOLVED: Synaptics on Pupply Linux

Greetings,

The solution is to exit X11 to the boot prompt and use xorgwizard to create an xorg.config which loads the Synaptics driver.

Thanks all for the help,

Synaptics Driver for Puppy 5.3

I ran into a similar problem and the posts, here, helped me solve it.

If Puppy is installed to internal storage, the Synaptics touch pad driver is not active, even if it was made so on the external storage (for example, a thumb-drive).

As the problem can be remedied without installing a driver, I hesitate to say that a new driver must be installed; I didn't have to...

The symptom is:
Launch SetUp
Change Mouse or Keyboard
Configure your Touchpad
...and a diagnostic appears stating that the Synaptics touch pad driver cannot be located.

Solution:
Context (right) click the desktop to show the primary menu
Select Setup and then Xorg Video Wizard
Within the Xorg Video Wizard window, launch XorgWizard
PROBE or CHOOSE in order to reach (eventually) Puppy Video Wizard where TEST is available
TEST to reach the actual test page and click Change-mouse
That produces a page with a usb/ps-2 selection for the mouse or touch pad (select that)
Click OK
Click TEST_NOW (and wait for a while)
Click FINISHED (and wait for a while)
Reboot (necessary? don't know; I rebooted)

After rebooting, adjust your touch pad parameters

Select Tapping Off rather than just OFF or you'll be in a world-o-hurt if you are using just the touchpad and have no mouse!

Best!
