Pulseaudio vs Alsamixer
 

Is there anybody except me having trouble with the sound in Skype? I have tried everything to get the sound OK, but it is always a mess. Now I installed Alsamixer as Jorge in askubuntu showed me and got rid of Pulseaudio. As a result, my favourite game Emilia Pinball went silent (no music or sounds whatsoever), but Skype sounds seem OK. Does anyone know what to do to get back Emilia's music...?

Could you show us the link/thread that had you install alsamixer? Also, have you tried looking though the settings in your game to change your audio preferences? Do any other programs on your computer output audio to your speakers?

Could not change the settings, when I entered "Apply" for sound and music it bounced back to "Off" from "Full", even the music when starting Ubuntu has disappeared.

It is solved (almost). I followed the advice given by Jeffrey Knockel in http://www.jeffsplace.net/node/12 and got back the sound and music for Emilia and Skype sound is excellent too. Only thing is that the start-up music for Ubuntu is lacking. No big deal, though.
