Pulling my hair out on Kali Dual Boot Install!! Help!!

Ok, so I'm new to Linux, obviously. I am running in to roadblock after roadblock trying to install Kali Linux 2.0 for Dual Boot with Windows 8.

I have done everything I can find and I've gone cross-eyed. Here's where I'm stuck:

I've shrunken my C drive and created a new partition to be dedicated for Kali install. Every time I try to install via setup.exe from mounted ISO, or from shift+restart, I get the option to CONTINUE TO WINDOWS 8.1, or CONTINUE GNU/DEBIAN INSTALL. But no matter what boot configuration I try, I get an error message. The one i'm getting currently tells me that the EFI file is not trusted or validated.

Guys, what am I doing wrong here? I'm hoping it's some basic thing that everyone knows about but me and I can go OOOOHHHHHH NOOO WAAYYY, when I read it and be done.

Help pleeash??

I don't use EFI but I would suggest you turn off Secure Boot and anything related to fastboot and hibernation in the BIOS and reboot. Kali has pretty good documentation on their site. Never used it myself so have no other suggestions.

Is Kali Linux Right For You?

As the distributions developers, you might expect us to recommend that everyone should be using Kali Linux. The fact of the matter is, however, that Kali is a Linux distribution specifically geared towards professional penetration testers and security specialists, and given its unique nature, it is NOT a recommended distribution if youre unfamiliar with Linux or are looking for a general-purpose Linux desktop distribution for development, web design, gaming, etc.

Well, you're going to have to go it alone...

You've been informed that Kali is a very specialized distro and if you're bound and determined to install it - don't expect a lot of help as very few folks run it. You could try asking for help on the Kali forum - have a thick skin though. Since Kali is mainly intended to be run live, I would expect that the installer is very basic and probably doesn't have great UEFI support. Enjoy yourself...

Yeah that's kind of how it feels, the rapids thing. I've been running virtually in VBOX, but I'm roadblocked up against aircrack not working with my TP Link WN 722N USB Wireless antenna. I fought with it for a few days and then got some advice that it may just not work running as a VM. So that's how I got to where I am now, trying to dual boot. It seems like my laptop is anti-whatever I want it to do.

What you are asking for is help to mis-use the Kali distro in a way the kali developers themselves say is not appropriate. You do NOT want the kewl logo, you want immediate power to abuse other people's systems by intruding on them. Don't argue.

What you really need is a serious dose of maturity accompanied by an attitude adjustment, something that you can not get here. Come back when you grow up a little, we'll be happy to share some useful knowledge with you.

I have to wonder how many of the spammers assaulting LQ over the last 24 hours are similar immature kali-user-wannabes who have received help here in the past and now think it is just uber kewl to misuse their limited skills! The attitude is the same.

READ !!! the install instructions !!!!

that is not how you install it !!
kali is NOT a program you run and install on windows

it is a LIVE hi-bread OS

you pop in the dvd
and from the icon in the top left of the live Gnome3 Desktop you click "install to drive"

or

select the install during the boot up

think of it like this

Kali is a F-18 Tomcat
you are trying to launch and LAND ( night landing) on a carrier at sea
BUT
You have not yet learned to fly a single engine Cenessa aircraft

The easiest way to use Kali is a Live usb. Detailed instructions at their site below, that's pretty much what it was designed for.

Whoooaah, slow down Sparky. It's not that serious, really. If by misuse (it's one word, by the way, no hyphen) the Kali distro, you mean screwing with my married neighbor by setting up a dating profile for him on Farmersmeet.com (in retribution for him getting my WOW account banned when he hacked me and walked around for 3 days saying, "Hey little boy, you want some candy? Come see the new bicycle in the back of my van!", and much worse). Or perhaps changing my daughter's Facebook password until she brings her math grade up. Then yes, I absolutely plan on misusing (still no hyphen) the distro.
I truly apologize for not taking it seriously. I really was going to, until I saw that you already had that covered for the both of us.

This has an interesting side effect of making running older versions of Windows and making Linux difficult to run, unless you turn off Secure Boot.

Then perhaps reconfiguring Debian's boot options by getting nifty with a Rescue CD (or perhaps) reinstalling Debian, which may be the easiest for a new person to Linux. Welcome aboard!
That sounds like a plan! Solid man, thanks!
