pthread error - compiler issue?

I want to install rsyslog 3.1 which is the latest but dev version on my sarge machine. I got a error while installing but I think the error is not releated to rsyslog itself (in fact, I have tested this version on sid and it works there).

I got severl warnings /error like

Code:
checking arpa/inet.h presence... yes
configure: WARNING: arpa/inet.h: present but cannot be compiled
configure: WARNING: arpa/inet.h: check for missing prerequisite headers?
configure: WARNING: arpa/inet.h: see the Autoconf documentation
configure: WARNING: arpa/inet.h: section "Present But Cannot Be Compiled"
configure: WARNING: arpa/inet.h: proceeding with the preprocessor's result
configure: WARNING: arpa/inet.h: in the future, the compiler will take precedence
Code:
configure: WARNING: pthread.h: present but cannot be compiled
configure: WARNING: pthread.h: check for missing prerequisite headers?
configure: WARNING: pthread.h: see the Autoconf documentation
configure: WARNING: pthread.h: section "Present But Cannot Be Compiled"
configure: WARNING: pthread.h: proceeding with the preprocessor's result
configure: WARNING: pthread.h: in the future, the compiler will take precedence
checking for pthread.h... yes
checking for pthread_create in -lpthread... no
configure: error: pthread is missing
is this a compiler related issue. Any suggestion how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Try rsyslog version 3.10.1 from http://freshmeat.net/projects/rsyslog/
it compiles in a minute on glibc-2.3.4 (slackware 10.1)
(and of course on newer systems too)

Hi knudfl,

thanks for your reply.

As I wrote:

Maybe it is an autotool conflict or similar? Unfortunately I do not know how to get rid of the errors.
