ps -A unneeded apps
i was hoping that some of the more experienced users out there could help improve boottimes and overall performance by pointing out unneeded apps and how to disable them im running mdk9 with gnome2 and doing a ps -A from a konsole shell

This shows many servers running; do you really want to run a web server, an FTP server, a DNS, and so on? If not, go into the Mandrake Control Center, into the "Services" area, and find the servers listed on your ps -A report. If the "start at boot" checkbox is pressed for each, click it to CANCEL automatic loading. Don't shut off crond or xinetd, though; they're necessary for automatic background cleanup of your system. For each one that you do shut down, also click "stop" to shut it down right now. When finished, do another ps -A run to see the difference...
The controls may have slightly different names in Mandy 9; I'm running 8.1 and it's so good that I've not yet seen any need to get the latest version... |
you can also get rid of the squid proxy server.

watashiwaotaku7 - that means "I am a geek7" in Japanese. Are you really a geek and are you really seven?
