Question Proper way to backport File Manager or Desktop Environment in Debian 9?

Hi.

What would be the proper way to backport a File Manager or Desktop Environment in Debian 9?

For example, if I backport mate-desktop, many mate packages still don't get backported. This seems like a stability issue. The same goes for caja. There are so many other packages - would it even be worth the risk?

Thanks.

My advice is don't, unless you really know what you are about. And if you did, you'd hardly be asking.

Why Debian 9?

Hi BK.

Ok, I will leave be.

I like Debian 9 Stable for it's stability (I use the odd backport but err on the side of caution), community, security, etc.
