Programs seldom crashing
Hi there.
Every now and then, some application like kaffeine, firefox or k3b decides to crash, for no apparent or immediate reason. I usually check /var/log/messages or /var/log/syslog for information on errors, but never find something useful.
My question here is, where do i start looking for useful information when firefox or kaffeine crash? Are there any firefox logs stored somewhere else or should i be looking at some other file within /var/log?
Thanks for the help.

Usually you won't find anything. A program crashing inadvertently usually is not aware of it and cannot write to any log when it does.
On what distro this happens? If it is Debian: Debian Stable should not suffer crashes. Neither should Testing, but at least you know it could happen. Kubuntu is a derivative of Sid, hence you can expect crashes there.
If it just on one installation, the installation simply might be faulty. The current state of the art of the applications you mention is not such that crashes occur, not even once in a while.

Firefox crashes far too often even on Redhat Enterprise. I don't think this is a distribution specific problem.

I would say that at least firefox is very very stable, but still prone to failures just once in a long time. My question here then would be, if firefox has a chance to write some kind of log about something, which file will this be? And the same for the other programs.
Thanks.
