programs for backup
I need to find a program for backing up my computer, mostly /home. What are programs/methods that are reliable for this? Appreciate advice.
Thanks

#!/bin/sh
rsync -av --delete /home/user user@host:/home/user/backup/arch/

Generally there is a backup application associated with each DE. If you're using KDE, for example, you can use kbackup. So what DE are you using?
jdk

I'm using Crunchbang Waldorf. I have used rsync in the past. I am interested in knowing what other methods of backing up and restoring there are that are good. I have heard of taking snapshots/images; is this a good method to use? I want to backup to a separate hard drive and some to a DVD.
Thanks

I use tar so that I have complete snapshots from the past. Using rsync is more like taking an incremental backup and applying it immediately to the snapshot - which means that there is no history
available... once a file is deleted it is gone - no backup to get it from.
