Programs don't like "staying on top" or "always on top" -- any help?

Hiya,

Running Slackware 10, fluxbox 0.1.14. I like having a video play in the background while I work - or have the TV running while I work. Xawdecode has an option to "Stay on Top" but it simply doesn't work!

Is there a third party program to keep stuff on top of all other applications?
Is there another way?!

Please help!

Steve

"Is there another way?!"

You might be able to do what you want with the nice command. See:
man nice

I have a slight feeling you have misunderstood me - When I say "Always on Top"

I mean that the video box stays on top of my application - I.E. say I am browsing in Firefox, I would like the video box to stay on top all the time, even if I am using firefox

Cheers

Steve

Is there not an option in Fluxbox itself to do that? I know that most WMs give you the option to do so by right clicking on the title bar. I'm not much of a Fluxbox fan, I've only used it a bit (and the unstable branch, not the stable one which you appear to be using) but I'm pretty sure it has an option.

I think that option is not available in the stable release.
Development has it, however, and it works very well.

It's a very rare occasion when a post is deleted from LQ, and only jeremy can do this.

I assume (and I hope!) you were referring to your own post rather than the entire thread!

No, slackware's stock fluxbox does not have this option, however, as suggsted I'll move to developtment ;)

Cheers guys

Yep, works absolutely great! Thanks guys!

For reference all I did was

Remove fluxbox stock package
Compile fluxbox 0.9.9 from source
Scream at alpha transparencys which didn't work - do read the FAQs, it's got everything you need there ;)
Remember why I wanted this fluxbox version and test out *stay on top* :)

Cheers again guys

Steve
