program for fedore core 4 to rip dvds to svcd (mpg2)

hey everyone, do any of you all know of a program for fedora core 4 that i can use to rip dvds i have to mpg2 (svcd) format or avi? the site for dvd::rip is giving me 403 forbidden for every page on the site, so i cant try that thing out... my machine architecture is i386..

any advice of a useful program for this and where to download it would be great... thanks, --c0ldshadow

dvd::rip was what I was going to suggest when I saw the subject of your post. The site works fine for me.

dvd::rip is mostly a frontend to transcode, which is a mighty application and more than a handful to use without a GUI. There are other transcode frontends as well but I have only used dvd::rip. mencoder (from the mplayer package) should be able to do the same thing, and it has a fine frontend in acidrip.
