FTP Accounts

Can you provide a little more information about what's going wrong? I know there's not much feedback to go on, but maybe checking the logfile will help. One thing I can think of (if you're new to this sort of thing) is that the login username and password are those that are on the server host machine. So the account that you're trying to log in to over FTP must exist on the server with the password you're trying to log in with. Sorry if that's not right; just trying to throw out whatever ideas I can.

Well i installed the proftpd and added myself namit to the group alled ftpgroup

then loged in using ftp on windows computer

but no joy it did not allow me to log in

Are the passwords the same as login password?

like in samba the password is different to the login password

FTP Login Password

Yes. The password you use for FTP login is the same as you would for a local login. So if you normally log in locally to that machine with user "foo" and password "bar", you use username "foo" and password "bar" to log in on FTP. Windows can sometimes have problems when you disallow anonymous logins on the FTP host and just type "ftp://host/" in Explorer's address bar. If nothing else works, you could try "ftp://user:password@host/" in the address bar and see if that works.
