Ok, due to so many of you liking PROFTPD so much, I'll try to stick with it a little longer. Thanks to all of your very informative posts that I have been scouring, I was able to get PROFTPD installed and working...well sort of working.
There's a very particular way that I need it to be, and I haven't been able to figure it out, so I'm hoping that some of you wiser folks might be able to guide me in the right direction
I am using:
ProFTPD Version 1.2.10
Webmin 1.160
Slackware 10
Kernel 2.4.26 (
I haven't figured out to compile the kernel yet..once I get this ftp set, then the kernel will be my next project
)

/storage/storage/apps
/storage/storage/movies
/storage/storage/games
/storage/storage/music
/storage/storage/books_docs
/storage/storage/books_audio
These folders should only be accessed by those who I give individual login and passwords to. But, I do not want them to be able to access anyhting else on my computer, like going through PuTTy, or something. I do want them to have the ability to upload stuff to: /storage/storage/upload_junk
and I want to have a quota on that folder, so it doesn't get too big.

/storage/storage/apps/linux
This folder I want anonomous users and logged in users to see and to download all the linux distros and software that I have.

Misc questions:
- What are the pros and cons to using PROFTPD or VSFTPD?
- What are the pros and cons to using "STANDALONE" or "INETD"? (did I spell it right?)
- What's this "CHROOT" I hear about? How is it used? How secure is it?
- How do you add users for only FTP access and not regular system access?

Thanks for your time and help.
