proftp server behind firewall (no route to host)
 

HI,

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I've setup a proftp server on Debian behind a firewall on a private ip address. Set iptables to forward tcp 20,21 to the box. Connections from outside world are present with the banner, login and when they try anything it says

192.168.2.240
(No route to host)

Am i doing something wrong?

Any firewall on the client side that could be blocking it? Have you tried both active and pasv mode?

Thanks for your reply. I switched the FTP client into passive mode and it works.. YAY! Thank you so much for pointing this simple thing to me, i feel a n00b.. Ive been so busy I haven't been able to think

Heh, no worries, I've worked a lot on FTP systems and have seen soooooo many problems like this and I still have to stop and think about PASV versus ACTIV!
