ProFTP Problem

Hello All,

I've been running ProFTP on my slack box for a while now and all seemed well. Several months went by and I didn't use it and now I can't login at all

my proftpd.log looks like this:

Dec 02 10:50:29 slack proftpd[7138]: getaddrinfo 'slack' error: Name or service not known
Dec 02 10:50:29 slack proftpd[7138]: warning: unable to determine IP address of 'slack'
Dec 02 10:50:29 slack proftpd[7138]: error: no valid servers configured
Dec 02 10:50:29 slack proftpd[7138]: Fatal: error processing configuration file '/etc/proftpd.conf'

I searched my proftpd.conf and there is no mention of 'slack' although slack is the name of the machine.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

--Keith

Have you tried restarting it at all? Seems as if the running process can't find the conf file. Do you start ftp from inetd or standalone? Personally I'd say drop proftpd and use vsftpd if you really depend on ftp, if not and you have ssh, use scp or rsync, faster, more secure and more effecient if you want to transfer files to and from your server.

Yes, I've tried restarting and still no luck. It's running from inetd.

I've been using sftp to transfer file but the windows clients really suck - any recommendations on a good client?

Thanks,

Try shutting it off from inetd and make it standalone, to see what kind of errors it might spit out when starting it manually.
