/proc/acpi missing
 

Arrrgh *smacks head repeatedly against wall* I've been compliling different kernels for the past week trying to get ACPI to work on my Acer 1350LC Laptop. I have enabled the ACPI support in the kernel and compiled, ACPI seems to load okay but I have no /proc/acpi folder, and the mystical "Turn... off... automatically... at... shutdown" feature doesn't work along with not being able to view how much battery life I've got left, it's a pain because it means I've got to run the laptop with my power lead plugged in, not very portable.

I have complied multiple kernels with ACPI support
installed ACPID and it still doesn't work... I'm starting to wish I had never bothered with Mandrake Linux 9.2, SuSE 9.0 is better it just doesn't like my graphics card so if anybody can help me I'd be forever in their debt and may just buy them a cheese sandwich or something.

Do you have APM enabled in your bios?

maybe you added it as a module and it isn't set to load automatically, so in turn try modprobe apm and then see if it works..

Ah I've got it, I don't have an option for APM in my bios only ACPI but this is most strange... I compiled kernel 2.4.21 with ACPI support and installed the ACPID that comes with mandrake 9.2 on the CD's and it didn't work... so I installed 2.4.23 with ACPI and ACPID from a mandrake ftp site... that didn't work but after doing that and booting up with 2.4.21 again it's suddenly decided to work... most strange but I won't complain. Now is there any way to tweak it to get more battery life, apparently I've only got an hours battery life in Linux, but nearly 2 hours in Windows... any ideas?
