probs in starting mysql
i tried to start mysql server using the foll...
# cd /etc
# cp my-medium.cnf my.cnf
# cp /usr/share/mysql/mysql.server /etc/rc.d/rc.mysql
# su - mysql
$ /usr/bin/mysql_install_db
$ ls -al /var/lib/mysql/
$ /usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root -p password 'new-password'
Enter password:
when i do this i get a warning
ignoring worl writable my.cnf file
finally i do this
# /etc/rc.d/rc.mysql start
i get an error that check /var/run/mysql/mysql.sock exists
what is going wrong?

remove the world write permission on my.cnf, otherwise, as the message states, MySQL will ignore it.

chmod o-w my.cnf
