Problems with X on Trident CyberBlade/i7
I have an HP Pavilion N3370 laptop with 14" TFT display, subject video card 8M shared memory. I've installed Slackware 8.0 and gotten X to work, mostly. With some hand tweaking of the XF86Config file, I was able to get 1024x768 display. Here are my problems:

- Using ctrl-alt-backspace, I can kill the X-server and get back to a text shell. However, when I use the exit menu items, regardless of window manager (twm, fvwm2, etc), I get a grey screen with some text near the bottom, washed out, and the screen starts getting brighter. Ctrl-alt-backspace has no effect at this point, but ctrl-alt-del will eventually reboot.

- I tried upgrading to XFree 4.2 then 4.2.1 (downloaded from, but this introduced a new problem (which I also see with Slackware 8.1). This is extra signals from the Synaptics touch pad, which makes the mouse and menus totally unusable within X (and, consequently, X is unusable). Ctrl-alt-backspace takes me out, but since I can't get any menu control, I have no idea if 4.2.1 fixed the exit problem. I reinstalled the Slackware 8.0 provided X version, but I still have the mouse problem - probably some other library that didn't get replaced. I have found some reference to the touch pad problem with 2.4 kernels, so I'm not too concerned with that, though if someone has a solution, I'd love to hear it. I'm going to go through some additional package removes/installs to see if I can get back to a working X (with ctrl-alt-del exit), and short of that, start with a reinstall of slack8.0.

Any ideas on either problem?
