problems with X-apps when executed on remote host via ssh

Hi!
I was recently using cygwin under windows XP pro, and when I would ssh into my university server I could run varoius X apps (like xmaple, xemacs) remotely. Now I am running gentoo, and when I boot a term and ssh in, and run.. it tells me "Display not found".

It would seem the term environment is strictly text only, and this makes sense - but how can one execute remote X-apps through ssh, like I did with cygwin on winxpPro?

Thanks very much in advance!

Ryan

You need to be running an X server for the apps to forward to.
