Problems with steam (hlds)

I am trying to install a CS 1.6 server but when I try to run steam I always get this:

[root@onionknight2 hlds_l]# ./steam
Checking bootstrapper version ...
Getting version 7 of Steam HLDS Update Tool
Downloading. . . . . . . . . . .
tar: steam: Cannot open: File exists
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
update failed, please run "tar xzUf LinuxHldsUpdateTool_7.pkg" to install the latest steam binary, errno 2 "No such file or directory"

I moved LinuxHldsUpdateTool_7.pkg to another dir and ran tar xzUf to extract the new version of steam, then I overwrote the old one with the new one but I stell get the same old message about getting version 7.

Hmm, this should probably be in Linux - Games, but I didn't see that one. Would be nive if someone moved it there.

Where did you download the file from? It could be that you are using an old version of the HLDS update tool.

It came with the hlds_l_1120_full.bin but I also tried with hldsupdatetool.bin later on but it gave me the same error.

I noticed something with the steam file, it turns hidden when it's put in the hlds_l directory (where it should be run). I'm a newbie at Linux, but I think it might be the cause to why i get a "errno 2 "No such file or directory"". So how do I turn it visible?
