Redhat 9 and Fedora does not come with support for playing mp3 files straight out of the box (or from the FTP :)) for licensing reasons.

You can get a version of the xmms mp3 output plugin for RH9 here.

i had similiar problem with rh9 with mp3. When you use xmms, make sure you select the right output plug-in. i am not on my machine so i can't which one to choose, there are three and just try until one works.

feetyouwell 01-09-2004 09:41 PM

make sure you have the machine volume turned up all the way. I did notice that mp3 plays at a higher volume windows boxes. I haven't figured out why...

where in linux are volume settings?
i tuned volume only in xmmms.

depends on which gui you use, kde (recommended) or gnome

both of them should have the system volume controller on the desktop, if not, you should find it under system preference panel.
