problems with mp3 in RH9
i ve got a problem
i cant play mp3 files on RH9 i can play for example .wav files. but not mp3. what is the problem? how to solve it? thanx |
Redhat 9 and Fedora does not come with support for playing mp3 files straight out of the box (or from the FTP :)) for licensing reasons.
You can get a version of the xmms mp3 output plugin for RH9 here. Bookmark freshrpms.net! :) Håkan |

i had similiar problem with rh9 with mp3. When you use xmms, make sure you select the right output plug-in. i am not on my machine so i can't which one to choose, there are three and just try until one works.

feetyouwell, you re genius!!!
IT WARKS! THANX!!!!!! but i ve got one more question. in windows sound is louder that on rh9. how make it louder? |
make sure you have the machine volume turned up all the way. I did notice that mp3 plays at a higher volume windows boxes. I haven't figured out why...
|
where in linux are volume settings?
i tuned volume only in xmmms. and on speakers volume is at highest level |
depends on which gui you use, kde (recommended) or gnome
both of them should have the system volume controller on the desktop, if not, you should find it under system preference panel. |
Get your mp3 support here
