Exclamation Problems with K3b

Hi.

When I open K3b I get the following errors:
Quote:
Unable to find cdrecord executable
K3b uses cdrecord to actually write CDs.
Solution: Install the cdrtools package which contains cdrecord.
cdrdao 1.1.7 does not support ATAPI
The configured version of cdrdao does not support writing to ATAPI devices without SCSI emulation and there is at least one writer in your system not configured to use SCSI emulation.
Solution: The best and recommended solution is to enable ide-scsi (SCSI emulation) for all writer devices. This way you won't have any problems. Or you install (or select as the default) a more recent version of cdrdao.
No support for ATAPI with cdrdao
You will not be able to use all your reading devices as copy sources since there is at least one not configured to use SCSI emulation and your system does not support ATAPI with cdrdao.
Solution: The best and recommended solution is to enable ide-scsi (SCSI emulation) for all devices. This way you won't have any problems.
I have allready run K3bSetup 2 as root and this is my configuration:
Use burning group: users (enabled)
Devices
DVDrom /dev/hdb 660 root.users
DVDwriter /dev/hdc 660 root.users
External Programs
cdrdao 1.1.7 /usr/bin/cdrdao 4710 root.users
cdrecord 2.01a27 /usr/bin/cdrecord 4710 root.users

My system:
Kernel: 2.6.4 (upgraded from 2.4)
Distribution: Debian Sid
KDE ver.: 3.2.2
K3b ver.: 0.11.90
cdrecord ver.: Cdrecord-Clone 2.01a27
cdrdao ver.: 1.1.7
DVD Reader: Sony DDU1621 [/dev/hdb]
DVD Writer: Toshiba SD-R5112 [dev/hdc]

It used to work with kernel 2.4 but I can't go back because of K3b!
What should I do to make it work?
Will I be able to use my devices as ATAPI or I have to switch them back to ide-scsi mode?

I had the same problem.

To resolve this one. You have to update ur cdrdao, and cdrtools packages.
search in google and you'll come across both of those. Install the packages, and then run k3b

Hi

1. Unable to find cdrecord executable:

It means... unable to find cdrecord executable. If you sure it had been installed, then try "which cdrecord" in shell to find out where is it and add the path to k3b Settings -> Configure k3b -> Programs -> Search path.

2. cdrdao 1.1.7 does not support ATAPI:

cdrecord 1.1.8 support ATAPI, if you don't want to use scsi emulation, upgrade cdrecord.

Hope this help.

I had the same problem. Setting it up in root wasn't enough for some reason. So to test it I logged into root and burned a CD. Then went back to my user account and it now worked.

may not solve your problem, but as strange as it sounds it worked for me.

Thanks for your replies!

I installed cdrdao 1.1.8pre2-1 and it's OK but I still get the following error:
Quote:
Unable to find cdrecord executable
K3b uses cdrecord to actually write CDs.
Solution: Install the cdrtools package which contains cdrecord.
I know I have it installed for sure in the latest version available!
If I run K3b as root I don't see any problem. Even K3bsetup finds it sets the right permissions...

I found it!

I fixed my problem!

All I did was:
1. changed group in K3bSetup from users to cdrecording
2. added myself to group: cdrecording
3. suid cdrdao, cdrecord, cdrecord.mmap and cdrecord.shm (the last two are Debian only I think)
4. chmod 4750 for all these programs

Now it works like a charm

Thanks again for your help.
