Problems with installing packages off of the mandrake 9.2 cd

i jus recently got mandrake 9.2 and i am very new to the linux operating system( ) . Neways... my problem is. whenever i go to install a package off of the mandrake 9.2 cd's(such as GAIM or XMMS) many of my other packages get removed (configuration mangager, all of the games, Development tools and my file explorer). also, the icons in the linux bar all have the same folder icon. I am really frusterated with this problem mainly because i have EVERYTHING else working....incuding the NVidia Divers which were a b#&$! to installl.

neways... if u can help in the least bit it will be very greatly appreciated

This was a bug. The apps haven't gone, just the menu link to them. If you download all the updates, this will not happen again. To sort out the menus, open a terminal and type in "update-menus -v" without the quotes, and then wait a while. It should sort it out. You may need to do the same thing again, after typing "su" and putting in the root password when prompted, too.

I'd also like to add, be sure to run MandrakeUpdate and install all of the updates. There are some which address this problem so you don't end up having it repeat in the future
