Problems with IE 5.5 in latest WINE (20040716) and Franks Corner Tutorial

Hi,

With a fresh install of Linux and Wine, I attempted to install IE 5.5 using the following tutorial:
http://frankscorner.org/index.php?p=ie55

However, when I run wine IEXPLORE.EXE, no window shows up, and wine doesn't crash or anything. Running it with all debugging messages enabled gives the following:

First of all, there's this interesting error message:
Quote:

trace:shdocvw:WBCF_AddRef
trace:shdocvw:WBCF_CreateInstance Failed attempt to aggregate IWebBrowser
trace:shdocvw:WBCF_Release
Followed by a bunch of registry queries:
Quote:

...
registry queries here
...
trace:reg:RegQueryValueExA (0x9c,"CachePrefix",(nil),0x4065e2f0,0x4065e318,0x4065e2fc=260)
trace:reg:RegQueryValueExA (0x9c,"CacheLimit",(nil),0x4065e308,0x4065ea84,0x4065e2f8=4)
trace:string:wvsnprintfA 0x4038e902 1024 "%u"
trace:string:wvsnprintfA "16384"
and it hangs right after the last wvsnprintfA.

Any idea how I can get this up and running? I'd much rather run IE 5.5 locally and in realtime than use a delayed pay-service like www.browsercam.com to view how my website looks in legacy browsers ;)

I used the CAB files from browsers.evolt.org for IE 5.5 SP2.

i'm sorry if i seem to be rude, but the whole point of using linux is to get away from using microsoft. mozilla is better, period. i even use mozilla firefox on my windows partition. it'll do everything that IE does, only better and safer. you can download it from www.mozilla.org.

also, read this. it's from US-CERT, part of the US Department of Homeland Security.
