Thumbs up Problems with gtkpod and 3rd Gen iPod Shuffle

I just got the 3rd gen iPod Shuffle. I filled it with music from my girlfriends Windows laptop. Now that I try to edit the contents with gtkpod on my Ubuntu machine Im am not able to remove or add any music. When I for instance try to delete songs and click on "Save Changes" in gtkpod a pop up window asks me to "Please select mountpoint and iPod model". When this is done (3rd gen shuffle - model xB227) a Warning pops up saying:

Error initialising iPod: Problem creating iPod directory or file: '/media/OLE PETTERS/iPod_Control'.
iPod directory structure must be present before synching to the iPod can be performed.

Any ideas on how I can solve this problem? I am pretty new to Linux so I appreciate simple answers :-)

Thanks

Try googling your error message:

"iPod directory structure must be present before synching to the iPod can be performed."

I had endless trouble getting gtkpod to work with an iPod. The program is very poorly documented and, for me anyway, horribly unintuitive. I do recall having problems with file permissions. Have you tried running gtkpod as root (or 'sudo gtkpod'). I think eventually I changed the ownership/permissions on the iPod itself.

Thanks for your answer. I tried running it as root, but then it didnt even recognize the iPod when I plugged it in. However the program seems to be working allright now when I open it as a normal user. The only problem Im having is that there are a few songs that make gtkpod crash when I try to delete them from the iPod. These songs were copied to the iPod from iTunes running on a windows machine.
