Problems with gtk installation


When I try to configure gtk I get the following error:

configure: error: Xft Pango backend is required for x11 target

Theres some discussion of it here (im not spamming and dont wana post 5 times extra so add a w in the adress) so ww.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=191622&highlight=If+pkgconfig+was+correct
I`m using fedora core 3

now another problem. Installing dcgui from rpms... I have now idea where they are installed, whats the "usual" dir? The problem is that when running it through the "application launcher" in fedora the program just flashes on the screen before I have time to react
