problems with graphic and sound in slackware 9.1 distro
hi every one,
i like linux os to use so i downloaded and installed the slackware 9.1 ,but when i started i, i faced many problems, there is no graphicalmode,no sound and nothing for to connect to the internet.here in our country the linux is not so populer os,so there is no any tech centers for linux or no any books are avaliable to learn about it,the only thing is left to get help online.i tried to read about my problems from the google search, but in practical they don't solve my problems,i posted my problems to the linuxquestions.org forums,they replied and ask me to do ... but when i did what they ask me, and i posted there anwers again, unfortunately no response from there,to get more steps to solve my problem,so i am humbly requesting of yours plz help me step by setp untill i can solve all my problems and get problem free linux os,i assure, you will get the anwers for your question in the next day. my first problem is the slack can't start in the graphical mode,i configured the XFree86 with defferent drivers from the cofiguration database like standard vga,svga and 3 intel drivers(i810,i740,5430)"my vga card is:"Intel(R)845G/GL"but with all there is same error messages: XFree86 version 4.3.0 Fatal server error caught signal 11.server aborting X10:fatal server error 104(connetion reset by peer)on x server ":0.0" after 0 requisties(0 known processed)with 0 event remainig. For sound problem i dwonloaded the latest alsa driver when i want to configure for installation there is error messages: checking for gcc...gcc checking for C compiler default output file name...configure:error:C compiler cannot create executables see 'config.log'for more details pleeeeeeeeaaaase help me. |
Ok, Im a newbie and I use Mandrake so I wouldn't be too sure but I assume that if it wont start in graphical mode then your runlevel could be too low. Try this, login as root, type kde or whatever gui your using. When your in kde or whatever you use look for a folder called etc. Inside it you should find a file called inittab.
Open up this file and look for the runlevel line. This is short line and im assuming it is currently set to 1 or 2. You should change it to 5 then save the file. Reboot you system, then hopefully the graphical problem should be fixed. As for your problem with sound, try this: look for a program called kmix and open it. Click all the green buttons so the light comes on on all of them, then put all of the sliders up to the max. Then hopefully your sound will work. |
for slackware its runlevel 4 but he is having problems with configuring xfree86 so that will not help him

for your graphics chip i went to xfree86 it say to use the i810 driver here is the link http://www.xfree86.org/current/Status17.html#17

Thanks for your replies as you mentioned i canfigured the xfree86 for the intel i810 chipset but still there is no any graphical mode ,ofcourse the same error messges wich i mentioned above,also i change the run level from 3 to 4 when i restart the pc there was no grathical screen and neither command prompt. I installed the latest intel graphic driver for linux "i380" from folder "dripkg" and the installation proccessed succesfully but i didn't find it in the xf86config drivers database to select it. plz guide me for further solutions. |
