Problems with Google Chrome on SLED11 SP1

Hi, I've got SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 SP1 laptop and I'm trying to install Google Chrome on it. I downloaded the rpm from google and installed it (which also added the chrome repo), but Chrome wouldn't start. So tried to run it from console and it complained about some libstdc++.so.6(glibcxx_3.4.11) library. So I googled an rpm with the library for OpenSUSE 11.1 or 11.2 (can't remember now) and chrome started, but it won't load any webpages, I always get the "Aw, snap!" screen, even right after startup. What's the problem? Do I need some other libraries for it to work?

Console output of chrome starting:

Code:

Installing glibc packages built for openSUSE is not a good idea. SLED is based on openSUSE but it is not openSUSE. If I were you I'd figure out what it was you installed and remove it.

I've used Google Chrome on SLED 11 SP 1 in the past but I just tried installing it on a test machine and it doesn't work. It seems that as of version 13 it requires versions of libraries that are newer than those supplied in SLED 11 SP 1. The Google Chrome rpm does not make any claim to work on SLED, only unspecified versions of Fedora and openSUSE. Looks like you'll either have to wait for Google to start making it work with SLED 11 SP1 again (no reason to believe they will), or wait for SLED 11 SP2 (some time early next year).

Or if you feel adventurous you could build newer versions of the libraries that Chrome needs from source installing them in to their own location that doesn't interfere with or replace what's already in SLED 11 SP1 (say /opt/mylibs) and then run Chrome with a wrapper script that sets LD_LIBRARY_PATH to include the location of those libraries and then invokes Chrome. I did that once to get Firefox 3 working on SLED 10. It's a fairly onerous task though.

OK, reverted back to the original libstdc++43 ... Is there some way to get older rpms of chrome? I can't find any using google...

EDIT: Found a chrome v13 rpm at http://www.tucows.com/preview/853871 after few hours of searching, works like a charm. Thanks for your help.
