problems with c-compiler

i get an error like configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH
while installing software, what should i do?

You could tell us what you are installing, on which distro, and wheter you have a compiler installed or not..

You probably do not have a c- compiler. When I installed Redhat the first time I chose desktop install. This does not contain any developmental tools. I needed to install their "work station". You probably have one(c-compiler) on your disks. Goto to something like add/remove programs, then install all of your development stuff. It will prompt you to insert a disk.
